About the Doctor
Dr. Charles Buzzanell
Fondly known as Dr. Buzz to his patients, he has dedicated his career to helping to relieve the debilitating symptoms of chronic pain and addiction. Dr. Buzz recognizes that each patient is different and therefore approaches each treatment with a multidisciplinary approach.
After graduating from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1984, Dr. Buzzanell completed his anesthesiology residency training at the National Naval Medical Center with fellowship training in pain management at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He holds board certifications in Pain Management and Anesthesiology through the American Board of Anesthesiology.
Before he became Dr. Buzz, he was Director of the Pain Control Clinic at the National Naval Medical Center and served in Desert Storm. He left the Navy after 12 years of honorable service in 1992. Following that, he became an assistant professor and Director of the Georgetown University Pain Management Fellowship Program. He also served as assistant professor with the New York Medical College at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City.
Dr. Buzzanell came to Asheville in the late nineties and founded Blue Ridge Pain Management in 2004. He is a trusted physician with a passion for patient rehabilitation. His compassion and commitment to patient care will lead you to the help you need, and the life that you deserve.

He joins us after working in addiction and pain management in Portland, Oregon.
After serving 4 years in the United States Marine Corps, he attended UNCA, graduating Summa Cum Laude in Psychology and Political Science. During this time, he provided basic EMT care for local Ashevillians, and decided to make learning and practicing medicine a lifelong pursuit. He then went on to earn his Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) from University of Tennessee Health Science Center. He considers himself to be a compassionate and understanding provider, and ensures each patient receives appropriate and individualized treatment. In his free time he enjoys floating the French Broad with his Golden Retriever, playing drums, or practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
